1. 比較變化
原級 -> 比較級 -> 最高級
- 規則變化
原級 + er/est.
(例) short -> shorter -> shortest.
原級字尾有e + r/st.
(例) nice -> nicer -> nicest.
原級為短母音 + 子音, 重複子音 + er/est.
(例) Hot -> hotter -> hottest. (wet/red/big)
原級字尾為子音 + y, 去y + ier / iest.
(例) easy -> easier -> easiest.
兩音節以上的形容詞, more / most + 原級.
(例) beautiful -> more beautiful -> most beautiful.
兩個音節, 可以more / most, 也有可能+er
(例) modern -> moderner / more modern - 不規則變化
(例) bad/ill -> worse -> worst.
(例) good/well -> better -> best.
(例) many/much -> more -> most.
(例) little -> less -> least.
(例) far -> farther -> farthest (表"距離")
far -> further -> furthest (表"程度, 數量, 距離")
(例) late -> later -> latest (表"時間", "最新的")
late -> latter -> last (表"順序")
(例) old -> older -> oldest (表"年紀, 新舊")
old -> elder -> eldest (表"長幼") - (例) He was happy in his later life.
(例) As for French and German, the latter is more difficult for me than the former.

(例) Mar is more beautiful than her/she (is).
